![]() ![]() Two hours down the drain, for leaving the old drive plugged in. ![]() So I cloned again it and immediately after the clone turned of the old drive, then it worked. I did a lot of fiddling around trying to get it to work, but no luck. Turns out, windows doesn’t like if you leave the old drive in. However after it did its thing, and I tried to boot from the new M.2 drive it just got a black screen. (Note first I tried with Samsung own Data Migration – which didn’t work because it couldn’t detect the OEM drive).Īcronis True Image tool is very simple, so it was easy to start the clone process. As I remembered it, it just worked, so wanted to use that again today. Last time I upgraded SSD in one of the other machine I used a free version of Acronis True Image, that came with an Kingston SSD. Today I moved data from an old Samsung Evo 850, 256 GB SATA SSD, to another 512 GB Samsung M.2 drive (I don’t have the exact model, as it is an OEM drive that was pulled from a Razer laptop) – however testing showed that it was significantly faster, so good upgrade. However every time I need to clone a boot drive it seems that I end up spending more time than I like, because of crappy tools that don’t work (or maybe they do, but they don’t work for me). This goes for boot drives as well as storage drives (lately the storage drives have lasted a lot longer, because I don’t acquire that much data, and drives are so big). My standard procedure for data protection is that I buy new faster and better drive every other year, and copy stuff over, and leave the old drives in a drawer, in case of emergency they can be used. This post is mostly a memo for myself, but maybe it can help you next time you need to clone a SSD or an M.2 drive and save you some time trying to find tools that works. Nexomon twitter6/23/2023 ![]() A little like Nexomon: Extinction, Nexomon itself is less a subservient slave in homage to Pokémon than it is a game that recognises the silliness of it all, and you’ll come across all kinds of little in-jokes and outright humour as you play along. There are eight “gyms” to tackle, a mysterious evil group to deal with and… well, that’s pretty much all that drives any of these games in question forward. The game follows a similar structure to Pokémon, too. I wanted to go on adventures with all of them. Nexomon’s monsters are, generally speaking, much more aligned with the philosophy of early Pokémon, and because so many of them were so cute, it was really hard to choose which of them to put into my party. Later generations of Pokémon have become MacGuyver-like contraptions that make very little sense, and aren’t all that pleasant to my eyes (and if you don’t know what a “MacGuyver” is then your eyes aren’t old enough to feel the weariness that mine do). While I generally enjoy the direction that Game Freak has taken Pokémon, I do prefer the earlier generation monsters, which were more readily comparable to animals that we see in the really real world. It’s the designs of these sprites that really drew me in. By that I mean the game plays out through a bright, colourful, and simple top-down perspective, monsters lie in ambush in patches of grass, and battles involve simply-animated sprites whaling away at one another. There are over 300 ‘mons to collect, in just about every way the game is the homage to early-era Pokémon that “fan” base keep screeching at Game Freak to return to. That’s not without caveats, but what the game does well overwhelms any of the issues that you might have with it. I guess we console players could call it a prequel?Īnyhow, it’s also very, very, very good. I think it was a surprising success for the publisher (and it did rightfully deserve to be a success since it is excellent), and so, one year on the team has come back to port the original Nexomon from mobile devices and PC to console as well. Last year, at around this time, PQube released Nexomon: Extinction on various platforms. ![]() ![]() Nexomon’s console releases have come in an odd order. ![]() Womens obsidian ring6/23/2023 ![]() This other world, actually a distant planet, was like a new Earth free from the violent forces of our own planet, upon which Plus Ultra envisioned a fresh start. Second was the discovery of another world accessible via wormhole. Airplanes were turned into weapons of war, automobiles led to tanks, and atomic energy eventually became the ultimate destructive force on the planet. First was the realization that seemingly all of the inventions for which Plus Ultra was responsible were corrupted by corporate and governmental influence into tools for destruction or subjugation. Over the following years, two major things led to the creation of Tomorrowland. They named this group Plus Ultra, a play on the Latin phrase “non plus ultra,” loosely trasnlated “nothing further beyond” implying that we’d reached our limits as a species. ( Spoilers for the film and the book from here on.) It all starts at the 1889 World’s Fair in Paris, when four men, Thomas Edison, Nikola Tesla, Jules Verne, and Gustave Eiffel met at the top of the Eiffel Tower and conceived of an organization in which the world’s greatest thinkers, dreamers, and visionaries would work together for the advancement of the human race, free from government or corporate influence, with a focus on creations that would improve humanity. To really dive into Tomorrowland, and why it’s so special both to me personally and in the larger film landscape, we first have to take a look at the story of Tomorrowland, which begins long before the events of the film and spans the film, a novel, an app, interviews, and an alternate reality game. Tomorrowland may not be for everyone, but it could inspire anyone. ![]() My hope is not to convince you that Tomorrowland is the greatest thing ever, nor to make you feel what I felt, but simply that you might take a second look at a film you might otherwise have cast aside. ![]() It was the rare film that felt like it was made specifically for me, although I’m sure I’m not the only one who feels that way. Well Tomorrowland didn’t change my life, it confirmed it. People often talk about how a particular work of art, be it a movie, a book, or a song, changed their life. It wouldn’t be fair to the film or its creators to let it simply slide on by barely noticed and quickly dismissed, particularly when it has such potential to inspire and challenge our preconceptions.Īlso, on a personal level, Tomorrowland has been one of the most meaningful and fulfilling movies I have ever seen, quickly jumping to a spot on my all time favorites list. ![]() And while I had every intention of analyzing the film after I saw its first trailer, I felt further compelled to defend and dissect it when, upon leaving the theater after seeing it for the first time, I overheard a group of teenage boys talking about how it was the “worst thing they’d ever seen.” I don’t expect to change anyone’s mind with this, especially not an anonymous group of teenagers, but I feel like the passion and craftsmanship that went into Tomorrowland deserves an equal amount of passion and diligence in considering the film. Tomorrowland is a dense, fascinating work of art, with a story that expands far beyond the film and which contains a variety of ideas. ![]() But to continue on the path we’re currently following would be, as Casey Newton would put it, “feeding the wrong wolf.” And, unfortunately, judging by the film’s mediocre results at the box office they probably won’t again in the near future. Big motion picture companies don’t spend $190 million on an original science fiction film about how hope and the mere act of not giving up can save the world. So by all accounts, Tomorrowlandshouldn’t exist. Today, movies filled with darkness and despair are seen as more “real,” while optimistic movies are ridiculed as being juvenile or unrealistic, and happy endings are easily dismissed by many. But being an optimist is hard work, and is often ridiculed. I always have been, even through the roughest patches of my life. ![]() Ia writer tutorial6/23/2023 ![]() ![]() Actually, I have the impression of having discovered a new universe, that of PKM (Personal Knowledge Management) actually.įirst of all, learn that it all starts with the creation of a “vault”, which is never more than a folder in which you will place all your notes, all your files. 2022 chevy equinox specs6/23/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() Agreeable and easy to drive, the Equinox handles competently, and its steering is accurate and direct. At our test track, our most recent Equinox test vehicle, an RS trim with all-wheel drive, needed 8.0 seconds to reach 60 mph. The six-speed automatic shifts seamlessly, though it's reluctant to downshift when extra power is needed as it's geared toward fuel economy. The engine makes 175 horsepower, and when paired with the optional (and heavier) all-wheel-drive system (front-wheel drive is standard), it takes a heavy foot to hustle the Equinox up to highway speeds. Underpowered and frequently out of breath, the turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder won't win any fans with its sluggish performance, and it's the sole offering for the Equinox. You can get similar content in an LT by adding the Confidence and Convenience packages, but we prefer the darkened trim of the RS and think it justifies the price difference between the two. New-car buyers clearly appreciate the Equinox's combination of roominess, features, and value to overlook its sleepy performance and low-key vibe. Still, the Equinox remains one of the best-sellers in the bloated compact-SUV class. Alternatives such as the Mazda CX-50, the Honda CR-V, the VW Tiguan, and the Ford Bronco Sport all have more personality and verve. Compared with many more flavorful competitors, the Equinox is bland. However, an anemic 175-hp turbocharged four-cylinder limits driving enjoyment. It's more playful to drive than its looks suggest. The design of the Equinox is inoffensive, and its generously sized interior affords a lot of room for passengers and cargo. Even the base LS trim offers plenty of popular features, including myriad infotainment and safety tech. On its own, the 2023 Chevy Equinox is a competent mainstream compact SUV. ![]() ![]() ** Single print order can either print or save as PDF. If you were to draw a picture of his glasses and scar, it would probably look something like this:Īs it happens, LOTS of people have done just that (drawn pictures of glasses and lightning bolts). See Robert’s story as an example of a streamer injury.Any Harry Potter fans will probably be familiar with the fact that: (1) Harry Potter wears glasses and (2) He has a scar in the shape of a lightning bolt. If a person is part of one of these streamers, they could be killed or injured during the streamer discharge even though the lightning channel was not completed between the cloud and the upward streamer. Typically, only one of the streamers makes contact with the leader as it approaches the ground and provides the path for the bright return stroke however, when the main channel discharges, so do all the other streamers in the area. Streamers develop as the downward-moving leader approaches the ground. While not as common as the other types of lightning injuries, people caught in “streamers” are at risk of being killed or injured by lightning. This includes anything that plugs into an electrical outlet, water faucets and showers, corded phones, and windows and doors. ![]() Whether inside or outside, anyone in contact with anything connected to metal wires, plumbing, or metal surfaces that extend outside is at risk. Most indoor lightning casualties and some outdoor casualties are due to conduction. Metal does not attract lightning, but it provides a path for the lightning to follow. Lightning can travel long distances in wires or other metal surfaces. Because large farm animals have a relatively large body-span, ground current from a nearby lightning strike is often fatal to livestock. The greater the distance between contact points, the greater the potential for death or serious injury. Typically, the lightning enters the body at the contact point closest to the lightning strike, travels through the cardiovascular and/or nervous systems, and exits the body at the contact point farthest from the lightning. Because the ground current affects a much larger area than the other causes of lightning casualties, the ground current causes the most lightning deaths and injuries.Ground current also kills many farm animals. In addition, ground current can travel in garage floors with conductive materials. Anyone outside near a lightning strike is potentially a victim of ground current. When lightning strikes a tree or other object, much of the energy travels outward from the strike in and along the ground surface. Most often, side flash victims have taken shelter under a tree to avoid rain or hail. Side flashes generally occur when the victim is within a foot or two of the object that is struck. In essence, the person acts as a “short circuit” for some of energy in the lightning discharge. While the ability to survive any lightning strike is related to immediate medical attention, the amount of current moving through the body is also a factor.Ī side flash (also called a side splash) occurs when lightning strikes a taller object near the victim and a portion of the current jumps from taller object to the victim. The heat produced when lightning moves over the skin can produce burns, but the current moving through the body is of greatest concern. In most direct strikes, a portion of the current moves along and just over the skin surface (called flashover) and a portion of the current moves through the body-usually through the cardiovascular and/or nervous systems. Direct strikes are not as common as the other ways people are struck by lightning, but they are potentially the most deadly. Most often, direct strikes occur to victims who are in open areas. Immediate medical attention, including calling 911, starting CPR, and using an AED, may be critically important to keep the person alive until more advanced medical care arrives.Ī person struck directly by lightning becomes a part of the main lightning discharge channel. Any of these types of strikes can be deadly. It is not always possible to know exactly how a victim has been struck, but here is a list of ways that lightning strikes its victims. ![]() |
